During our time in Gran Canaria, we stayed at Puerto Rico. Our hotel was located at the top of a hill. Not a brilliant location as it was about 150 steps to get to our hotel from the main part of Puerto Rico. Good exercise though and we can’t really grumble because we are young! Being so high up meant we had a brilliant view of Puerto Rico from the balcony of our apartment.

We went to Gran Canaria for a week and it was a lovely break, especially for Rob to switch off work. We went for lots of walks, shopping, challenged each other to a game of crazy golf and booked a couple of trips. One trip was a camel ride. I surprised myself by agreeing to do that with my fear of horse riding (after an accident in my teens), but I decided that it was safer than horse riding because I wouldn’t actually be sitting ON the camel. Some people did and if I was asked to do that, I would have refused. I enjoyed this experience, even though it was rather bumpy!

The choice of restaurants in Puerto Rico was superb, we had Chinese, Indian, Mexican and Italian meals. I don’t think there were two nights where we had the same cuisine twice. I found a lot of similarities between Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Benidorm and Majorca. The only difference would be the age group each area attracted. Tenerife was probably livelier with a younger crowd. I would go to Gran Canaria again and I would recommend it to others, although I would probably opt to stay at Maspalomas next time as this appeared more attractive.
